Lindsay Short, NP-BC, every visit

Our medical weight loss clinic in Mission Viejo is for people who have already tried the diet, the app and the gym, and want a clinician to find what is actually holding the weight on. You start with a free thirty-minute visit and a free InBody scan that separates fat from muscle from water, so the plan is built on your physiology rather than a guess. Lindsay Short, NP-BC reviews your history and what you have already tried, then puts a program in writing, with the cost confirmed in writing before anything starts. We do not bill insurance, so nothing gets denied halfway through.

What a medical weight loss clinic does that a diet program does not

A consultation room, where a first visit starts with an assessment rather than a sale

A commercial diet program sells you a plan. A medical weight loss program starts by establishing why the weight is there: thyroid function, blood sugar, hormones, sleep, and medication you already take. Some of those change what should be prescribed, and one of them can make weight loss almost impossible until it is treated.

That is the whole difference. Everything after it, the medication, the dose, the pace, is decided on your results rather than on a package someone bought.

How the cost works

What you pay depends on which medication you are prescribed and at what dose, and both of those are decided after your assessment rather than before it. So the figure comes at your consultation, in writing, before anything starts.

What is worth knowing in advance is the shape of it. The program is priced as a course of care rather than as a box of medication, so the number covers the clinician visits, the repeat scans and the dose adjustment as well as the drug. The consultation and the InBody scan are free whether or not you go ahead, and there is no obligation attached to either.

We do not bill insurance. That is deliberate: no prior authorization, no coverage denial part-way through, and no treatment decision made by a plan rather than by your clinician. Cherry and CareCredit financing are available if you would rather spread it, and membership pricing is lower than standard rates.

We are not the cheapest medical weight loss in Orange County and do not try to be. What you are paying for is a licensed clinician managing the dose, body composition measured rather than assumed, and a plan for what happens when you come off. The cheaper version of this is usually a medication mailed to you with nobody watching.

What is included in the weight loss program

The program is a course of care, not a box of medication. What it covers:

  • The medication itself, at the dose you are actually prescribed rather than a fixed one.
  • Clinician visits across the eight weeks, not one consultation and a prescription.
  • Repeat InBody scans, so the loss can be checked as fat rather than muscle.
  • Dose adjustment as you respond, which is the part a mail-order supply cannot do.
  • Lab work where your history warrants it.
  • A written plan for what happens when you come off.

Who this weight loss program is for

Most people we treat have lost weight before and put it back on, and arrive expecting to be told to try harder. The program is built for that: adults who want a clinician looking for a medical reason the weight is not moving, who want the dose managed as they respond rather than posted to them, and who would rather be measured than weighed.

Who it is not for

GLP-1 medication is not appropriate for everyone, and there are histories that rule it out. If you are looking for a treatment that works without any change alongside it, this is not that, and we would rather say so at the consultation than take payment and have you find out in month three. If what you want is a stubborn pocket of fat removed rather than weight lost, that is CoolSculpting, and a different conversation.

What happens at your first visit

  1. A conversation, about thirty minutes

Your goals, your history, what you have already tried and what did not work, with a licensed medical professional rather than a salesperson.

  2. An InBody 580 scan

Under a minute, fully clothed. It separates fat mass, lean muscle mass and body water, so progress is measured in what actually changed rather than one number on a scale.

  3. Testing where it is warranted

Thyroid, blood sugar and hormones where the picture suggests it. Treating a cause beats dieting against one.

  4. A written plan and a written price

What is recommended, roughly how long it takes, and what it costs, whether or not you decide to go ahead.

What we prescribe

There is no single best medication, which is why we test and assess before prescribing rather than after.

The lifestyle plan that runs alongside the medication

The medication makes eating less feel possible. It does not decide what you eat, whether you keep your muscle, or what happens in the year after you stop. That is what this part of the program is for, and it is the part that determines whether the weight stays off.

  1. The diet plan, protein first, every meal

On a strongly suppressed appetite the risk is not overeating, it is under-eating protein badly, and losing muscle alongside the fat. We set a protein target you can actually hit on a smaller appetite and build the rest of the day around it. No food is banned; the plan has to survive contact with your actual life or it is theater.

  2. The exercise plan, resistance work, not more cardio

Resistance training is the only thing that reliably protects lean mass during a deficit, and lean mass is what keeps your metabolic rate up afterwards. Two or three sessions a week is enough to change the outcome. We write it for where you actually are, including if that is nowhere.

  3. Hydration, the most-ignored one, and the cheapest to fix

GLP-1 medications slow gastric emptying, which blunts thirst as well as hunger. A large share of the fatigue, headaches and constipation people blame on the drug is dehydration. We give you a daily target and check it at every visit, because it is the single easiest thing to correct.

  4. Measured, not assumed

Repeat InBody scans separate fat loss from muscle loss, so the plan can be adjusted on evidence. A scale cannot tell you which one is happening, and by the time it shows in the mirror you have lost months.

None of this is sold separately or added to the program price. It is written at your first visit, revised as your body composition changes, and it is the part of the plan we are still working on with you when the medication is being tapered.

Trial data favors tirzepatide over semaglutide on average, and the retatrutide trials that have reported are striking. Average is not you, which is why the choice is made after testing rather than from a table, and why the row that matters most here is the last one.

On retatrutide specifically. It is a triple agonist still in trials rather than an approved medication, which means it has no FDA-approved labeling and no established long-term safety record. We will discuss it where it is appropriate and we will tell you that status plainly first. Anyone presenting it as simply the newest and best option is leaving out the part you most need to decide with.

Why we measure body composition, not weight

Resistance work, which is what protects lean mass while weight comes off

A scale reports total mass. It cannot tell you whether the pound you lost last week was fat or muscle, and those are opposite outcomes. Losing muscle lowers the rate you burn energy at rest, which is precisely what makes regain easier later.

We take an InBody 580 baseline at your first visit and repeat it as you go. It is the difference between knowing a plan is working and hoping it is.

Visit our weight loss clinic in Mission Viejo

People search for us as OC Weight Loss Center and as OC Weight Loss & Med Spa; both are this practice. We are one weight loss center with one location, on Via Fabricante in Mission Viejo, a few minutes from the 5 and the Shops at Mission Viejo. Most of the people we treat drive in from Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and Ladera Ranch.

What happens when you stop

Nobody asks this at the first visit and everybody thinks about it by month four, so it is worth answering plainly. GLP-1 medications work while you take them. Appetite signaling returns when you stop, and a proportion of the weight comes back for most people who stop abruptly with nothing in place.

That is not an argument for staying on them forever. It is an argument for using the months the medication buys you to build the things that hold weight steady without it, protein intake you actually sustain, resistance training that protects muscle, and a measured body composition you can check against later. We taper deliberately rather than stopping at a number, and we keep measuring for a while afterwards, because the first six months off medication tell you far more than the last six months on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers before you book

How much does a medical weight loss program cost in Mission Viejo?

It depends on which medication you are prescribed and at what dose, so we quote you the full figure in writing at your consultation before anything starts. What the program price covers is the same in every case: the medication, the clinician visits across the program, repeat InBody scans and dose adjustment as you respond. The consultation and the scan are free, we do not bill insurance, and Cherry and CareCredit financing are available.

Do you take insurance?

No, and that is deliberate. Not billing insurance means no prior authorization, no coverage denial part-way through, and no treatment decision made by a plan rather than by your clinician. Cherry and CareCredit financing are available if you would rather spread the cost.

Which weight loss medication works best?

There is no single best one, which is why we test and assess before prescribing rather than after. Tirzepatide acts on two hormone pathways and semaglutide on one; the trial data favors tirzepatide on average, but the right choice depends on your history, your tolerance and what you are trying to achieve. Some people do better on an appetite suppressant like phentermine and never need a GLP-1 at all.

How much weight will I lose?

We will not promise you a number, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What we can tell you is that results depend on the medication, the dose you reach, and what happens alongside it with protein and resistance work. We measure body composition rather than weight alone, so you can see whether what you are losing is fat or muscle.

Do I have to stay on it forever?

No, but weight regain is common if nothing else changed. The program is built around the step-down as much as the ramp-up: keeping muscle, keeping a routine you can live with, and re-testing so the decision to stop is made on data rather than on a feeling.

Is compounded semaglutide the same as Ozempic or Wegovy?

The active molecule is the same one in Ozempic and Wegovy. What differs is the supply chain: brand products come from the manufacturer with FDA oversight of that specific product, while compounded versions are prepared by a licensed pharmacy, which is permitted in defined circumstances. We tell you which you are being prescribed and why, before you pay. A clinic that will not answer that question directly is telling you something.

Does Medi-Cal cover weight loss medication?

Coverage rules for GLP-1 medication under Medi-Cal have tightened, and we do not bill insurance in any case. Our pricing is what you see above, with no coverage decision sitting between you and treatment.

What happens at the first appointment?

About thirty minutes with a licensed medical professional: your goals, your history, what you have already tried, and an InBody body composition scan to set a baseline. You leave with a written plan and a written price whether or not you decide to go ahead. The consultation and the scan are free.
