What is Xeomin?
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin made by Merz Aesthetics. It received FDA approval in 2010 for cervical dystonia and blepharospasm, with cosmetic approval for moderate-to-severe glabellar lines added in 2011.
What makes Xeomin different from Botox and Dysport is its purification process. While Botox and Dysport include accessory proteins that surround and stabilize the active toxin, Xeomin uses a proprietary precipitation and chromatography process to remove those complexing proteins. The result is a “naked” toxin molecule — just the active 150-kDa botulinum toxin A protein, without the additional protein complex.
The clinical relevance: those accessory proteins are part of why some patients eventually develop neutralizing antibodies to Botox or Dysport. Why choose Xeomin in Mission Viejo?

What areas can Xeomin treat?
FDA approval covers moderate-to-severe glabellar lines (the “11s” between the brows). Off-label aesthetic uses parallel those of Botox:
- Forehead horizontal lines
- Crow’s feet
- Bunny lines on the bridge of the nose
- Lip flip and perioral lines
- Masseter slimming for jaw contouring or bruxism
- Chin dimpling (mentalis muscle)
- Neck bands (platysmal bands)
Xeomin dosing is roughly 1:1 with Botox — a 20-unit Botox glabellar treatment generally translates to 20 units of Xeomin. The 2010 EU comparison studies and subsequent U.S. clinical experience support this conversion in most patients, though some individuals may need a small dosing adjustment.
Xeomin onset and duration
Onset of effect is similar to Botox — most patients see softening at days 2 to 4 and peak effect at days 7 to 14. Duration is also comparable to Botox at 3 to 4 months in the glabellar area, sometimes shorter in patients with heavy muscle activity or longer in patients with smaller muscle mass.

What to expect at your Xeomin appointment
- Consultation: We review your goals and treatment history. If you’re switching from Botox or Dysport, we ask about your prior experience — what worked, what felt off, when you noticed wear-off.
- Mapping: Your injector evaluates muscle pattern at rest and in animation, marks the injection points, and confirms the dose plan.
- Injection: Small-gauge needle, precise placement. The injection portion typically takes 5 to 10 minutes.
- Aftercare: Avoid lying flat, rubbing the area, or strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Normal skincare resumes the next day.
- Follow-up: Two-week check-in is standard. A small touch-up at that point is common when fine-tuning a new product.

Is Xeomin safer than Botox?
Both products have well-established safety profiles. Xeomin’s purified formulation may reduce the chance of developing neutralizing antibodies over years of treatment, but for most patients the safety difference is minimal. Side effects across both products are similar in type and frequency.
Can I switch from Botox to Xeomin?
